BIRDS
If you are holidaying in Moroco and are a keen ornithologist you may like to visit Massa Lagoon, one of the best wet, bird-watching sites in Morocco, which is situated just a few miles south of Moroccoblue Bed and Breakfast.
Most of the birds to be spotted there are migratory so the best times to spot them is in the winter – September to April. Some of the birds to be found at Massa Lagoon are flamingoes, spoonbill, white stork, black-avocets, black-winged stilt, marsh harriers, ospreys and ducks. In the morning at Massa you can see black and spotted sandgrouse and in the vegetation you can spot godwits, turnstones, dunlins, snipe, black-billed bush shrike and little crake.
One of the world’s rarest birds, the bald ibis, has been spotted at Massa and also at Tamri some 25 miles north where there is another smaller lagoon.
Massa Lagoon is an old river estuary and the walk from the village of Massa to the beach is a delightful experience in itself. There is also an abundance of wild plants to be seen.
If you would like to visit Massa you can book in with us for one or two nights when we would be pleased to provide a lunch and transport you to the village during the day and you can eat out locally or book a meal with us in the evening meal if required.
